It goes without saying that every maintenance team wants to reduce breakdowns and increase Uptime.

After working with dozens of manufacturing businesses I can also tell you that the quickest way to do this is by improving your planning & scheduling process so that you can get your priority work done sooner.

To help maintenance teams get more done with less I created the Uptime Accelerator™.

The outcome is simple: To increase your equipment uptime.

I’m aiming to get you out of reactive mode, so I’ll give you everything you need to make that happen. And the important thing here is that we are probably going to do it without you needing any more people or money.

In this course we’re going to solve the 3 biggest problems that stop maintenance teams from delivering great results: Being the Villain, Always Rushing and a Growing Backlog.

First, let’s change the perception that the Maintenance Team is the Villain – that they are the cause of the issues and that they can’t make things better.

1. We’ll start with Simplify Strategy – we are going to give you a clear language and model that you can use to explain what maintenance planning & scheduling is about. With this in hand you will be able to gain support and engagement from the most unlikely of people.

2. Next, we’ll design the KPI that you use each day to ensure that there is clear focus on the improvements that you want to achieve. You will use these simple measures to both track the progress of the changes you make and to hold other team members accountable for the role they need to play.

3. Then we will have a good look at how your CMMS is set up. When a system is well configured it becomes easy to use, from simple request entry to work order tracking and scheduling everything becomes easier.


The result? The business will see maintenance as the Superhero with a clear action plan to get out of reactive and into proactive. This change in perception will give the rest of the business much more confidence in the maintenance team and you will start to see the support you get increase.

The second problem we’ll solve together is that feeling of always rushing.

As a Maintenance Planner it feels like it is always a rush to get jobs planned, parts bought, and shutdowns organised. And then of course the production schedule changes and none of the work gets done anyway. Likely there’s a better way, and we’ll install it next…

4. First, we are going to look at what perfect planning would look like. How can you utilise your team to gather all the information that the trades need to complete the work? And how can we do this well in advance of when the work needs to be done.

5. Then we’ll find the ideal process for you to get your spares organised. What should you buy in? What should be on the shelf? And how can we track all of this in our CMMS?

6. Finally, we’ll bring all of this together into a weekly routine that means nothing ever gets forgotten and we can remove the normal chaos from the day.

By now, we have a nice big list of work ready to issue to the trades. All the parts have been put together in kits and your weekly routine is well established.

The 3rd and final problem is that if you aren’t completing work, your backlog is going to grow. Proper scheduling is much more than just creating a list of work to be done in any given week, it requires detailed planning and lots of discussion.

7. Our first step here is to get maintenance and production working together so that everybody has a shared interest in delivering both the production plan and the maintenance plan. You will be astonished at just how much flexibility there is when the right conversations are had.

8. Once we have everybody on the same page then we are going to explore how to build schedules that are successful.

When we schedule, we are going to issue work to specific people to complete on specific days. This sounds complicated, but I am going to show you how you can build a great schedule for your entire team in just a few hours.

9. Finally, with all the work now in the hands of the trades I want to show you how the most successful teams run their maintenance shuts like a conductor leading an orchestra. When you run your shuts like this, you’ll get all of the work done and always hand back to production on time.

This is how you use better planning & scheduling to increase equipment uptime and to show just how effective your maintenance team is.
